Year End Awards

The Yankees are World Series Champions and now its time for the year end awards. Former Zephyrs infielder Chris Coghlan was named the National League's Rookie of the Year on Monday, beating out players such as Philadelphia pitcher J.A. Happ, Atlanta pitcher Tommy Hanson and Pittsburgh outfielder Andrew McCutchen.Coghlan is the first former New Orleans Zephyr to win Rookie of the Year. Andre Dawson won the 1977 NL Rookie of the Year, a year after he batted .350 with 20 home runs in 74 games for the Denver Zephyrs. The bizarre part of the story is that Coghlan started the year at second base for New Orleans. He played a little at third base as well. He made a start in left field one night at Zephyr Field and the rumors had been swirling that the big club needed an outfielder and Coghlan may get…

The Fall Classic is here. The matchup of the defending World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies taking on the Bronx Bombers the New York Yankees! This is a great match up and most fans have to agree the best two teams in baseball are playing for the championship. It’s the defending champs against the team with the best record during the regular season. The two top home run hitting teams facing off. Lets hope that the games can be played without rain, snow and of course freezing cold temperatures. Playing baseball in November in Philly and NY is not exactly the best of conditions. There is a lot of hype for the games, now lets just Play Ball! How would you like to be a Cleveland Indians fan: Game one match up is CC Sabathia against Cliff Lee. These two were teammates in Cleveland 15 months ago. …

The Most Wonderful Time of the year!

The Most Wonderful Time of the year! The song maybe for the holidays but I think it makes more sense for October. The baseball playoffs are in high gear, the NFL and college football are kicked in and its great time to use the remote. So many games to choose from. It's a sports fans dream. This September baseball's pennant races were weak. Everything was decided. It took the Detroit Tigers collapse to give us one division to watch. The Playoffs are here and three of the four series were sweeps!Once again not much entertainment. We head to Championship Series and in the American League, Angels v Yankees looks great. The National League will look great if the defending champion Phillies would square up with the Dodgers. Bud Selig should like the TV ratings for thesegames. We shall see, the Rockies…
