QB not a concern at LSU

The 2011 LSU football season ended in a way LSU fans would not have expected. Last season, there were thoughts about which QB would be the most reliable at clutch time. Two names were constantly brought up before every single competitive team that LSU was about to face - Lee and Jefferson. While some Tiger fans were looking to rely on Jordan Jefferson to execute game-winning plays, others were looking for that in Jarrett Lee. It was a topic of conversation dominated by LSU fans in Baton Rouge, in Louisiana and all around the country. No such conversation this year. This season, LSU fans are expecting to see their Tigers in a new light. There is a new era arising with starting QB Zach Mettenberger. I must say myself that I am extremely excited to see what this young man will bring to the field for the 2012 season. After…

LSU-Tulane Baseball Rivalry

This past Tuesday I was able to attend the LSU vs. Tulane baseball game that I previewed last week. I was intrigued about what I would see. Not really on the field, but outside the lines at a major college baseball game. The game was a near sellout. The attendance count was around 5063 people. That amazed me especially to know that people in Louisiana are still in major support of our local universities! Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves despite the rivalry that was taking place on the field. There were of course people enjoying drinks, jambalaya and the occasional hot dog while watching the game. Now I know in the last blog I may have expressed some thoughts that this game should be very close. Well I couldn’t have been more wrong; LSU came out and played flawless baseball, especially in the fiel, shutting out the Wave 5-0.…

Green Wave takes on LSU on Cox Sports Television Next Week

This annual baseball game of The Fighting LSU Tigers vs. Tulane University Green Wave has become a very competitive rivalry. In recent years The Tigers have swept passed The Green Wave. Although this year it seems that this meeting between the two could be one of the most completive ones. It could be favored of either team based on each team’s season so far. Both teams are having a very productive start for the 2012 season. Both teams have close to unbeaten records so far. Tulane is standing with an (8-1) record; while LSU is right behind them with a (7-2) record. This weekend, Tulane will be taking on Alabama, who is 4-4; while LSU will be taking on Dartmouth (0-0). Both meetings will be a 3 game series. LSU’s first pitch for game 1 is tonight March 2 at 7pm. Tulane’s first pitch for game 1 is also tonight…

DATELINE ST LOUIS, MO (Worst game of the Sean Payton era?) Sean Payton has brought several Super moments to New Orleans so the list of stinkers are few and far between. Sure you had the opener in 07 where Indy crushed the Saints 41-10 and you had an uninspired loss in 08 at Carolina 30-7. Then you had some forgettable games last season where New Orleans lost to a horrible Arizona team led by QB Max Hall ?? 30-20. Another less than memorable moment was last season's home defeat to a youthful Cleveland club 30-17 and finally the painful Marshawn Lynch playoff dagger in Seattle. For my money, this game in St Louis was the worst---given how talented this Saints team is and how seemingly pathetic this opponent was entering the game. On the eve of Halloween, it seemed the Saints dressed up as the Rams and the…

LSU Football Preview by Jim Walsh

The LSU Tigers football team completed spring and fall camps like many other squads across the nation, but everything changed following a fight outside an off-campus bar that has shifted the focus from talk of a possible run to another BCS National Championship to more question marks for a team ranked No. 4 in the preseason USA Today and AP polls. With game week here and the focus now turning to how will LSU fare in one of the most highly anticipated opening games in Tigers history with BCS implications, what follows are the five biggest questions facing the Tigers as they set their sights on ending their season in New Orleans for the BCS title tilt. HOW WILL JARRETT LEE PERFORM AS THE NO. 1 QUARTERBACK?Lee was thrust into the starting role three years ago following the departure of Ryan Perrilloux and every LSU fan remembers his struggles…

SAINTS VS SAINTS

(brought to you by Louisiana Machinery and Capital One Bank) DATELINE: Metairie, LA/August 5th, 2010 (Payton should be a weatherman, avoids the rain again!!) There are a few constants this time of year, kids are counting the days left in summer vacation, parents are counting the days till school starts and in most camps the defense is ahead of the offense. For a change that is true here at Camp Payton which is a far cry from what it was in his first three years in training camp. Oh we remember the days of Jason David and Fred Thomas who would get roasted in the Jackson sun where Drew Brees could do whatever he wanted. Well, these days no more David, no more Thomas. instead we have the likes of Jabari Greer and Jonathan VIlma who have changed the landscape and the mindset of Saints scrimmages.

The 2010 Zurich Classic was a showcase for the TPC Louisiana, the city of New Orleans and of course some great golf. Jason Bohn, the winner of this year’s tournament, played remarkably, finishing at a TPC record 18-under-par 270. It became a two-man shootout late Sunday with Bohn making birdies on three of his last four holes to defeat Jeff Overton by two strokes. He will prove to be a very likable winner for the Fore! Kids Foundation and the fans of New Orleans. Despite the weather delays on Friday and Saturday, the TPC Louisiana really showed how it has become a quality venue on the PGA TOUR. Rob Arnold, head Superintendant at TPC, did an outstanding job of having the course playable after receiving almost three inches of rain on Friday afternoon. The players were very positive about the condition of the course and its playability.

by Paul Boron, CST ReporterExplain this to me. Why does it take an 83 year old man, who will be coaching only a few more years, to have the most forward thinking attitude in a conference stuck in the 70's? Joe Paterno, who will be making his 36th bowl appearance this Friday against LSU in The Capital One Bowl, thinks his league needs to add a 12th team and have a title game. Gee, no kidding!! A league in their own backyard, the MAC, has been playing a championship game for 12 years---12!!!! And the Big 10 just now realized this is a good idea? But bear in mind this is a league that still wants to cling to the sanctity of the Rose Bowl rather than have a playoff. And it has its teams ending its season long before anyone else, making them good and rusty come…

My Favorite Season of the Year

First things first. I want a playoff. I think it's insane that there is not a playoff. At least a 4 team, if not an 8 or 16 team playoff, to end the college football season, isn't too much to ask, is it? But, that being said, I love bowl season---crazy match-ups in odd locations every night of the week for nearly 3 straight weeks. And you know what? One has nothing to do with the other. You can have it all. Look Southern Miss or Middle Tennessee State aren't a factor in the playoffs so why can't they have a bowl trip to New Orleans?---It's great for the kids and great for fans. But that doesn't mean we can't have a playoff to determine a national champion. While schools are battling in Albuquerque and Saint Petersburg and New Orleans for a bowl title this weekend,…
