CST SIGNS MULTIYEAR EXTENSION WITH LSU SPORTS PROPERTIES
New Orleans – Cox Sports Television (CST), the regional sports network home of the LSU Tigers, has agreed to a multiyear extension to its partnership with LSU Sports Properties. The agreement, which comes on the heels of the Cox Communications/LSU Sports Properties extension announced yesterday, cements a relationship that began in 2002.
“We are thrilled to extend our strong relationship with LSU Athletics” said CST VP Rod Mickler. “Since 2002, CST has been the place for Tiger fans to tune to for year round coverage of their favorite team. With expanded coverage of LSU events and shows, this extension solidifies CST as a must have for LSU fans throughout the South”.
“This partnership (with Cox) allows us to finance a very important aspect of our athletic program,” said LSU AD Joe Alleva. “In a world where finances continue to be a challenge, it helps keep us striving for excellence and doing things for our student athletes.”
Since 2002, CST has been the exclusive regional sports network home for LSU events, including broadcasts of the highly-popular football game replays. Anchored by award-winning announcer Lyn Rollins and former Tiger Greg Bowser, the replays have become a staple of CST’s programming on Sunday and Wednesday nights.
CST has also been front and center for all of LSU’s athletic accomplishments. The regional sports network broadcasts live men’s and women’s basketball and has followed each team as they have advanced to the NCAA Final Four. LSU fans have been able to get to know their champions on the baseball field and will get a chance to see more of the Tigers, as the new agreement expands CST’s coverage to a minimum of 12 baseball games on the air. Coverage also continues for softball and gymnastics.
Beginning next fall, CST will debut a newly-created weekly magazine show that will take the place of the monthly LSU Sports Journal. The show, which is yet to be named, will concentrate on the ins-and-outs of the LSU athletic department and use students from the LSU School of Journalism to work on the production of the show.
As part of the sponsorship agreement, Cox will retain premium signage in all LSU athletic facilities; radio, television, Internet and game program advertising; game sponsorship benefits, tickets and hospitality access for sporting events, and use of the Team LSU mark for advertising and promotions. Additionally, CST will continue to televise a minimum of 50 LSU events on an annual basis and retain its status as the “Exclusive Regional Sports Network Home of the LSU Tigers”.
Where available, CST subscribers also will have access to CST Now (video on demand) allowing LSU fans immediate access to a variety of sporting events and an opportunity to become “referee-for-a-day” using the pause and rewind features on the system remote.
