NEW ORLEANS - The 2009-10 men’s and women’s basketball season will make history for Cox Sports Television. The 24-hour regional sports network first hit television sets seven years ago, but CST has never boasted the number and quality of games that will be broadcast this season.
At least 153 college basketball games from 12 conferences are set to tip on CST, which dwarfs the 95-game seven-conference schedule from last year.
“Our college basketball schedule is filled with great match-ups from many of the top conferences across the South and the country”, said CST head Rod Mickler. “We know college Hoop fans across the south will make CST a destination point this season as we almost double our number of games from last year”
The women’s schedule tips off on November 15 when the SWAC’s Alcorn State travels to face Arkansas from the SEC in a non-conference tilt. Three days later, LSU head coach Van Chancellor and his Tigers host Middle Tennessee out of the Sun Belt.
Women’s basketball battles of note include: New Orleans at LSU (Dec. 13); Ole Miss at Vanderbilt (Jan. 3); Grambling at Southern (Jan. 9); Tennessee at Florida (Jan. 14); Middle Tennessee at Western Kentucky (Jan. 24); Arkansas at LSU (Feb. 25); Georgetown at UConn (Feb. 27); Big East Conference Championships (Mar. 6); Gulf South Conference Final (Mar. 7) and Sun Belt Semi-Finals (March 8).
The men’s schedule gets started with a couple Tulane Green Wave games in the Charleston Classic. The first is November 19 against Miami (Fla.), followed by a game against either UNC-Wilmington or Penn State the following day.
Other interesting match-ups throughout the season: Nicholls State at The Great Alaska Shootout (Nov. 27-28); UL Lafayette at LSU (Dec. 1); Austin Peay at Kentucky (Dec. 19); St. John’s at Louisville (Jan. 9); New Orleans at Western Kentucky (Jan. 30); Louisiana Tech at New Mexico State (Feb. 8); Missouri at Nebraska (Fe. 20); Arkansas at Tennessee (Mar. 3); Texas Southern at Southern (Mar. 6); Gulf South Conference Final (Mar. 7); Sun Belt Conference Semi-Finals (Mar. 8).
