Tyren Johnson gets another shot at the NBA
Former Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball standout and 2010 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Tyren Johnson will get another chance at playing in the NBA Summer League.
Last week he was named to the Sacramento Kings' Summer League roster and will join the team for a mini-camp Friday-Sunday, July 9-11 in Sacramento before opening play on Monday, July 12 in the Las Vegas Summer League.
Officials with the Kings expect Johnson to participate in the games in Las Vegas. Last week, he did not make the cut in Charlotte and was left out of the Orlando Summer League games.
The Kings, fielding a team for the sixth straight year in Las Vegas, will play six games in seven days at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion beginning with a July 12 contest against Detroit.
Johnson is among 16 players who earned a spot on the Kings' summer league roster, including veterans Donté Greene and Omri Casspi and the Kings' draft selections, DeMarcus Cousins and Hassan Whiteside. Assistant Coach Mario Elie will be responsible for coaching the Kings' summer league entry.
