Tulane Football Players Start Fall Classes, Continue Preparation for Southeastern Louisiana
New Orleans - It was a day of transitioning for the Green Wave football team today as the team traded in their preseason camp itineraries for their fall class schedule as classes begin on the Tulane campus on Monday.
The Wave practiced this afternoon at the Westfeldt Practice Facility under a scorching sun that eventually gave way to a breeze by the end of practice. Tulane continued preparation for its season opener against Southeastern Louisiana with the installation of the game plan and work against SLU's scout team offense and defense.
It's no secret Tulane will feature the services of a freshman kicker this season. However, the position remained a stalemate following preseason camp and into fall practice as rookies Ryan Rome and Cairo Santos continued to square off.
Today, TU head football coach Bob Toledo continued to apply pressure to both players in an attempt to separate them. Toledo had the field goal and field goal block teams line up as usual but he added another element by surrounding each kicker with the remaining 73 players and had them make as much noise as possible. Both kickers remained consistent, hitting 4-of-5 attempts, including a pair of 47-yard attempts, and both players missed from the same spot as well.
