BIRMINGHAM - For the second consecutive year, Southern's Derek Price has been named the SWAC Equipment Manager of the Year. Price was selected for the 2009-10 distinction by the conference office for his exceptional efforts in maintaining the Jaguar equipment department.

Now in his 27th year overall and 17th at the helm of the Southern equipment department, Price's office is responsible for the allocation and maintenance of uniforms, game gear, and proper equipment for student-athletes in all 16 SU sports.

Price is a 1981 sociology and criminal law graduate of Southern and was a receiver and return specialist for the Jaguar football program. He also played baseball while in school at Southern.

The Baton Rouge, La. native has annually worked as an associate with Telex Communications at the Super Bowl since starting in 1993, and continued with the 2003 Super Bowl.

He is married to the former Stephanie Llorens of Natchitoches, La. and they share the joy of one daughter, Raven.
