The 58 degrees registered at game time marked the coldest temperature in the 15 years the Zephyrs have been playing at "The Shrine on Airline." With a howling 25 mph wind, it felt like anything but May in New Orleans.

Early on, it looked as if the Redbirds would be putting the Zephyrs on ice, scoring four times in the first inning.

A dropped catch on a force out attempt at second base opened the door to the inning, in which all four runs charged to starter Elih Villanueva were unearned. Bryan Anderson's two-out, two-run double capped the frame.

The Zephyrs answered in the second behind a line-drive two-run homer from Josh Kroeger, and a run-scoring single from Villanueva, the first run batted in by a Zephyrs pitcher this season.

New Orleans knotted the score the following inning on an RBI single by Oscar Salazar, cashing in a leadoff double by Ruben Gotay.

Kroeger struck again in the fifth, giving the Z's the lead with an RBI single against Memphis starter Lance Lynn. Reliever Jason Buursma was greeted by a two-run double from Brad Davis, extending the Zephyrs' lead to 7-4.

Meanwhile, Villanueva was having little trouble setting down the Redbirds, allowing just four hits after the shaky first inning. Villanueva (2-3) did not give up an earned run over seven innings, striking out one and walking one. Both of his wins this season have come against Memphis.

The Redbirds mounted a rally with two-out in the ninth, drawing a pair of walks from Dustin Richardson and getting an RBI single from Nick Stavinoha before Andrew Brown struck out swinging with the tying run on base to end the game.

Memphis starter Lance Lynn (1-3) was roughed up for seven runs in 4 1/3 innings, walking four and striking out five.

The Zephyrs pounded out 10 hits, including two each from Kroeger, Salazar and Chris Aguila. Vinny Rottino drew three walks, but was hitless in two official at-bats, ending his hit streak at nine games.

The series resumes Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m., with Jay Buente (0-0, 1.83) facing Adam Ottavino (0-1, 1.93).
