New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the team has waived/injured fullback Marcus Mailei and signed free agent fullback Jason McKie.
Mailei is a second-year player who was signed by the Saints from the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles in December 2009 and played in two games, making one tackle on special teams, before being placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. The 6-0, 255-pound product of Weber State played in the preseason opener for the Saints last week, catching two passes for seven yards.
McKie, a veteran of eight NFL seasons, first signed with the Saints in May and participated in the team’s offseason program prior to being released just prior to the start of training camp last month. The 5-11, 247-pound graduate of Temple University spent the past seven seasons in Chicago, having played in a total of 88 career regular season games with 47 starts, having carried the ball 29 times for 84 yards and three touchdowns along with 68 receptions for 364 yards and three scores.
