BATON ROUGE – LSU went through its sixth practice of the spring with a two-hour workout in full pads here Tuesday at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

The Tigers will take Wednesday off and then close out their second week of spring drills with a practice on Thursday followed by a scrimmage in Tiger Stadium on Saturday. The National L Club Spring Game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 in Tiger Stadium and free tickets to the contest are available at http://www.LSUtix.net.

After Tuesday’s practice, LSU senior wide receiver Terrence Toliver met with the media and issued the following statement regarding his involvement in an off-campus incident on Saturday night:

“I just want to take this opportunity to apologize for the altercation I had on Saturday. That was embarrassing to the team, embarrassing to my coaching staff, embarrassing to the players and my family, and also embarrassing to me. That was totally out of my character.  It won’t happen again. It was my first time ever getting in an altercation like this, and it won’t happen again. I’d just like to tell everyone I’m sorry and tell the fans that I’m sorry and forgive me for what happened on Saturday.”

LSU coach Les Miles had the following comments regarding the Toliver incident:

“It’s interesting that a guy who is a pretty good egg, a good student, and does the right things can make mistakes. Certainly his behavior is not to be tolerated. He’ll pay a tremendous price. He will practice with that (broken) hand. He will sustain some running. His personal embarrassment will be ongoing, but Terrence Toliver is a good person, and I suspect we’ll get by this.”

Miles said that Toliver will be expected to practice each day with the team even though his left hand is broken and in a cast.

“The hand is broken,” Miles said. “It will probably be casted and taped and rubber casted for the rest of the spring, but it will not be a lasting issue. We will throw him balls when the read dictates, and he’ll have to catch it. When he doesn’t catch it, we are going to bark at him. It’s just the way it is. He’s going to have to block with it. I didn’t break it. He did.”

Toliver didn’t practice on Tuesday, but he’s expected to back on the practice field with the Tigers on Thursday.

As for Tuesday’s practice, Miles said he continues to see the Tigers make improvement.

“This football team is working awfully hard,” Miles said. “I like what I’m seeing out of the running backs. I like what I’m seeing out of the wide receivers. The defense is stepping up and making plays. It’s very competitive, and we worked hard today. We got a good sweat, and our team improved.”
