YES “THEY” CAN!
DATELINE: Washington D.C/ August 9th, 2010/ (I saw a Bush in the Obama White House....ok it was Reggie)
After all the parties, the parades, the ring ceremony and the thousands of high five's and who dat's- it was time for the World Champion Saints to reach the finish line of its Super Bowl celebration tour. The final salute resided at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The White House seemed to really get into making it all about the Who Dat Nation. "Hail to the Chief" was replaced by Jazz music and in a show of support to both New Orleans and the recovering economy along the Gulf Coast, the White House lunch served up a 30 foot po-boy.
Whether you like his politics or not, there is no mistake that President Obama can take ownership of a room. Once he stepped in, he immediately made everyone feel at ease where its obvious he's not only a sports fan but very knowledgeable about the Saints and their championship run. His first comments were aimed at fellow Chicago amigo Sean Payton where the President said you have to be Chicago tough to call for an onside kick to begin the second half of a Super Bowl. Obama asked Saints owner Tom Benson, "Where you ok with that?" The president said tongue and cheek that call might have been tougher than some of his toughest decisions.
Obama made it clear he's a big Drew Brees fan as well. This wasn't the first meeting between the two as Obama and the Super Bowl MVP taped a commercial last fall on the White House lawn for the Play 60 program which aims to tackle child obesity. Obama reminded Brees that during the commerical he beat Steelers linebacker Troy Polamalu, Drew nodded in approval--Who's gonna disagree with the commander and chief?
The president showed his competitive side when he was asked "Will you wear the Saints jersey in Chicago?" he replied "You're pushin it!" When Obama saw Roman Harper's premature gray hair, he remarked the two had something in common! He showed a sense of humor but his overall tone was one of compassion for the Saints calling them a team, "which featured more than leaders in the locker room, they are leaders of an entire region." HIgh praise from the leader of the free world!
SAINTS CABiNET-----CAMPAIGN SLOGAN "TWO DAT"
Just for fun and in honor of the White House (and since the Saints are off and on a travel day) we thought we would put together a Who Dat administration which might bring home a lot of votes
PRESIDENT/DREW BREES: Who can argue with this? He's a leader, he's great in the community and with his Purdue background could carry both the south and the midwest states
VICE PRESIDENT/PATRICK RAMSEY: Every good president or in this case quarterback, needs a quality backup.
SECRETARY OF STATE: JON STINCHCOMB: Maybe the best interview on the team, we need a guy who can communicate well with others well and in tough negotiating times, who would dare stand up to the big fellah?
SECRETARY OF DEFENSE: JONATHAN VILMA: Yet another leader, the quarterback of the Saints defense brings intellligence and the ability to make decisions on the fly.
SECRETARY OF TREASURY: REGGIE BUSH: With his new 8 million dollar extension, he knows plenty about the green stuff
CHIEF OF STAFF: JAMES CARVILLE: We need an experienced man and it doesn't hurt the Louisiana native is a huge Saints fan as he doned a "Two Dat" hat at today's ceremony.
UNTIL NEXT BLOG,
