FAVRE FATIGUE

  • Email To A Friend

DATELINE: Metairie, LA/ August 3rd,2010 (Brett, no Superdome sequel ??)

Lebron James had "The Decision", Brett Favre is still mired in "The Indecision" or so most of us think. Today the Wrangler man has us wrangled once again with the apparent news that he is gone for good. C'mon how many of you actually believe that? Brett Favre's retirement brings to mind the parallel of the little boy who cried wolf. Enough already Drama king, the sequel to this movie is about as entertaining as Revenge of the Nerds part deux. I don't care if he sends texts, tweets or tmz's us to death, I don't care if he holds a press conference and then cries in Ed Werder's lap, I won't believe that Brett Favre is retired until the VIkings get the ball on the Thursday nighter in the Dome and he's not in the huddle.

The news of Favre's 348th retirement announcement was received with indifference on the Saints practice field. It seemed a bigger priority for Sean Payton and the guys was finding some shade or maybe an extra Gatorade than answering more questions about a QB they picked apart to earn a trip to Miami just 7 months ago. Payton didn't blink when asked about the breaking news calling it still "50-50" that it would happen. The Two Dat defenders either smiled or rolled their eyes when asked about it, where most of the players shared the mindset that it is what it is. What it is for most is a tired and terribly lame storyline which makes you wonder, I thought Brett Favre got enough attention, why does he seem to be always be clamoring for more?

Maybe its not Brett's fault, why don't we just blame it on the media. I mean if we just left him alone, maybe he would just go away. I thought the perfect way to treat Tiger Woods when he returned was just have nobody show up to his initial press conference---would that send a message or just give Eldrick exactly the freedom he wanted. I was always a Favre fan before all the drama, he seemed like the antithesis of what he is today. A guy who just liked to play football, not for the glory but just the game. After watching the spectacle he's made of his on and off again retirement the past few years, Favre is not the guy I thought he was. Everybody has the right to change there mind but c'mon there are limits and he's maxed out. His selfish actions have impacted countless coaches, GM's not to mention teammates, and for heaven's sake Chris Mortensen's vacation plans.

In the end, if this is truly it for Prince Favre (what am I saying!!!!) the Saints defense can claim another crowning achievement. They can say they forced two future Hall of Famers into retirement. First it was Kurt Warner and then dare we say Brett Favre. Will his last career completion be against Tracy Porter? I never thought that was the way one of the greatest QB's ever would want to go out, then again I never thought he would be a Minnesota VIking either?

AROUND THE CAMPFIRE

PIERRE THOMAS HURT: The Saints uneventful camp became eventful on Tuesday as running back Pierre Thomas injured his left wrist in 11 on 11 drills. Sean Payton says he is awaiting the result of the X-rays. Its the same wrist, Thomas had surgery on two seasons ago and it happened on the first full contact play of this camp.

COLSTON CATCHING ON: Marques Colston says he feels great and was taken off the PUP list and practiced for the first time today. He had his right knee scoped in the offseason, it was his left knee though which held him back at times last season.

SHANLE SITS: Scott Shanle and his knee were held out for the second straight day, but his condition isn't serious and he should be back soon.

SO DOES "SHOCK" : For the third day in a row, Jeremy Shockey was held out with soreness in his knee. Payton expects him back any day now.

AND SHARPER TOO: Darren Sharper also hasn't practiced yet but is keeping busy with conditioning drills. On his former teammate Brett Favre, Sharper says its more a Vikings problem than a Saints problem, couldn't agree more.
