Bush Injury Overblown?

  • Email To A Friend

Its becoming a national story but should it be?? Sean Payton says he isn't concerned and neither is the protagonist despite walking off the practice field today and having his surgically repaired left knee iced after this morning's workout. The story is Reggie Bush and how severe the carry over is with a knee injury that ended his season for the second year in a row. Saint Reggie says being held out of practices is just part of the master plan. Bush admits the coaches and trainers agreed on how to handle his knee over the offseason saying, "I'm not worried about it at all, I know its going to get there." The Bush gameplan has been to let him sometimes alternate practices, getting physical in some and sitting out others. Having the chance to ice his knee down and take it at his own pace has also allowed his knee to respond well. By the way today after the morning workout, Payton said Bush will practice this afternoon.

Bush proved durable his rookie season with a healthy Deuce McAllister but has had trouble staying on the field the last two seasons where he missed 4 games two years ago and 6 last year. Reggie has learned a lot in the process and feels he has a handle on it. It will be interesting to see how many reps he will get when the preseason games begin.

Of course with all the Saints Fans getting a front row seat to Camp Payton in Metairie this year armed with their Twitter and Facebook accounts and with an ESPN reporter at practice today, its easy to understand how it becomes a national story and fodder for blogs all around the Saints Nation. So all we can do now is listen to the coach and the man himself, Reggie Bush who maintains he is fine, for now he is just taking it slow.

AROUND THE CAMPFIRE:

TARGETS "ON TARGET" : Nice morning for the Saints receivers where the catch of the day was hauled in by Courtney Roby in red zone drills who came up with a nice grab in the corner of the endzone. Marques Colston showed off his athleticism and Paris Warren also opened some eyes. Still Wide Receivers Coach Curtis Johnson says he wasn't impressed...spoken like a true coach!

MOORE SEEING RED: Lance Moore is still sporting the red jersey which signifies no contact but Sean Payton hopes to remove it next week. Moore dislikes the red jersey so much he takes it off right when practice is over. By the way, Moore has looked great catching the ball and cutting on his routes.

HENDERSON UP AND DOWN: The mystery that is Devery Henderson showed up this morning. He dropped a few catchable balls and then followed up by making a great diving catch.

JABARI'S JOURNAL: Saints fans hopefully you will enjoy a brand new segment we nailed down today. It will be "Jabari's Journal" involving brand new DB Jabari Greer where we tackle different subjects each week and get the inside scoop on the Saints. Greer is a personable guy who is perfect for this and in my opinion could be the biggest offseason signee on this team.

NEW NUMBER/NEW MAN??: I know, I know its early but so far, so good for much maligned DB Jason David who broke up a few more passes in ths morning's red zone drills. He's sporting the new number (29) wow if he could contribute the Saints Secondary will be as deep as the Grand Canyon.

MALCOLM WATCH: It was Day 6 of camp and that means 6 days without first rounder Malcolm Jenkins, no update on the negotiations.
