Bored on the Bayou

I am guessing Sean Payton likes the word BORING when it comes to training camp. Boring means no injuries,no discractions, NO problems so far. Today's workout was the most boring of camp. It was all business just how the coaches like it. Full of good intensity from both sides of the ball especially the defense where brand new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams wants his unit to go full throttle even during water breaks.

The only distraction so far has been first rounder Malcolm Jenkins mysterious holdout where its hard to figure out why he's not here when the players drafted before him and after him are in camp. Last year Sedrick Ellis missed the first week and he turned out fine so maybe Jenkins won't miss a beat when he hits Camp Payton. The Saints were impressed with Jenkins finishing up his finals early to make OTA's, he's a smart kid and obviously talented and it seems Payton is confident he will be here soon.

So overall a BORING week for the Saints media where the biggest story was a non-story, Reggie Bush icing down his knee. For a team that has had its share of distractions and injuries over the last few years, watching the media yawn during two a days is sweet music to Sean Payton.

AROUND THE CAMPFIRE

BLACK AND GOLD SCRIMMAGE: Saturday's Black and Gold Scrimmage is closed to the public, but you can see the pictures on CST Tonight on Saturday. Sean Payton said it will be the usual of rotation of the !st teamers going against the 2nd teamers to start off and then the intensity will be picked up as the 1's will go against the 1's.

"SHOCK" TO THE SYSTEM: Jeremy Shockey is poised to have a big scrimmage as he is healthy and has looked great in camp so far.

WILDCAT SAINTS??: Interesting play in the morning workouts as Drew Brees gave way to Pierre Thomas who took the direct snap in one series....harbinger of things to come???

D-LIGHTFUL: Still very early, but you can see a new intensity in this defense who have been all over the field. The play of the morning workout was the 1's deflecting a Brees pass which resulted in an interception by Heath Evans.

BREES BONUS: Talking to Brees after practice yesterday, you could see how much he is enjoying his first camp in New Orleans. It has shown in his play where he's already in midseason form.
